Update on Shi Weihan

Shi Weihan, Christian bookshop owner, was arrested last year on a vague charge of 'illegal business operation' even though he sold only government approved books.

We received news through one of Shi’s co-workers that Shi has decided not to appeal against his sentence. Because he will complete his prison sentence, he will not need to settle the additional fine of RMB 150,000 (USD $21,975).

However, TIAN Hongxia, his employee who was also sentenced to three years, submitted her appeal in her own defense because her lawyer’s license was revoked and Tian was unable to find another lawyer in Beijing who dared to take up her case.

Please pray:

1.  Uphold Shi as he completes his prison sentence. Pray for his body to be physically able to take the tough conditions, his soul to experience the grace, peace and comfort of God, and his spirit to be renewed from day to day.

2.  Sister Tian is under home detention so that she can take care of her baby who was delivered in September 2008. The baby has a lot of sicknesses and that has caused the mother to be depressed and emotionally affected.  So please remember Tian at this time too. We are trying to find out how else we can encourage her other than by providing financial support.

3.  Continue to pray for Shi’s wife, Zhang Jing and their two daughters. We are also trying to get an update about their situation.
