INDIA: Repeat Attack on Christians in Bodimunda, Kandhamal

An Indian boy smiles despite the problems besetting his homeland.

Christians at Bodimunda Village of Tikabali Block of Kandhamal District, Orissa were attacked again by fundamentalists.
The people of Bodimunda village had been staying at the Tikabali relief camp for the last year after the riots in August 2008. On July 27, they left the relief camp to go back and settle in their villages.
Thirty-five families went back to Bodimunda while 13 others stayed at Tidinaju (one of the streets of Bodimunda village). Since they didn’t have houses there, they had put up tents for themselves.
The Hindus of Bodimunda and Penagaburi, on seeing this, plotted against them and on 29th August 2009, attacked the people who were staying at Tidinaju.
The Hindu mob came to Tidinaju around 10 p.m. in the night, broke their tents and even tried to kidnap one of the Christians from there and kill him. A fight broke out between the rioters and those staying in Tidinaju. On seeing this, the villagers of Bodimunda started making a noise and the Superintendent of Police of that area was informed.
He immediately dispatched his force which reached the spot on time. On seeing the police, the rioters ran away but the police managed to catch 7 of them.
The area in and around Bodimunda village is presently very sensitive and people are quite terrified and are left with a feeling of insecurity.

PLEASE PRAY
Please pray that Lord may strengthen the Christians there and give them courage to face the situation. Pray also that there should not be any spill over effect of this incident into the other areas of Kandhamal.
